  3.                                   INSTALLATION

  6.      The first step  in using any computer  program is to install it.   You
  7.      probably acquired your copy of TriBBS from a BBS or online service and
  8.      have obviously uncompressed the  file archive.  There are  two methods
  9.      for  installing TriBBS:  automatic  installation through  the included
  10.      INSTALL.EXE program or manual installation where you will be  required
  11.      to do most of the work yourself.  The method you chose is obviously up
  12.      to you, but most users will find automatic installation to be the best
  13.      method for setting up a new TriBBS board.

  16.      Automatic Installation

  19.      Automatic installation is started  by running the INSTALL.EXE program.
  20.      This is done by entering the following at the DOS prompt:

  24.      INSTALL  starts  by displaying  a list  of  directories it  intends to
  25.      create.  By default, these directories are C:\TRIBBS (the board's main
  26.      directory),  C:\TRIBBS\MWORK (holds  the user  data file,  the message
  27.      conferences,  questionnaires, answers  to questionnaires,  the callers
  28.      log,  and a  few other  data files),  C:\TRIBBS\NWORK (holds  the menu
  29.      configuration  files, event  data files,  and temporary  caller logs),
  30.      C:\TRIBBS\DISPLAY  (holds display  screens:  log on  screens,  goodbye
  31.      screen,  bulletins,  door  bulletins,   custom  menu  screens,  etc.),
  32.      C:\TRIBBS\TRANSFER (used by TriBBS to hold temporary files during file
  33.      transfers),  and C:\TRIBBS\TTTEMP  (used by  TriBBS to  hold transient
  34.      files and  data).  You can  change the main BBS  directory by pressing
  35.      the <F10> key and entering the new main BBS directory's name.

  37.      The installation process will  continue as soon as you  press <ENTER>.
  38.      The installation program continues by creating the six above mentioned
  39.      directories,   copies  the  executable   files  (BBS.EXE,  TTPROT.EXE,
  40.      TRIMAN.EXE, FILEMAN.EXE, TRIPACK.EXE,  MAKEIDX.EXE, ASCTOBIN.EXE,  and
  41.      LANGUAGE.001) into the main BBS directory, creates a BOARD.BAT file in
  42.      the main BBS directory,  copies the menu configuration files  into the
  43.      NWORK directory, and copies  the TeleChat and full screen  editor help
  44.      screens into the DISPLAY directory.

  46.      At  this point the installation program will  halt and wait for you to
  47.      enter  the BBS name (default: Unnamed BBS), the sysop's name (default:
  48.      Joe Sysop), the  com port (default: 1), and your  modem's maximum baud
  49.      rate  (default:  2400).   Once you  have  edited these  to appropriate
  50.      values, you must  press <F10> to  continue.  INSTALL will  continue by
  51.      creating  three data  files in  the  main BBS  directory: SYSDAT1.DAT,
  52.      SYSDAT2.DAT, and NODE.DAT.
